wall cladding

Our stones provide a unique combination of color and textures for both interior and exterior wall cladding panels and masonry. Architects specify our materials for their natural beauty, performance characteristics, low maintenance, and durability. Our exterior slate wall panels have low absorption rates and are resistant to staining, freeze-thaw cycles or other extreme environmental conditions. And because we produce custom wall cladding panels and offer several finishes, architects also appreciate the flexibility our materials afford them in their designs.

Panels - Panels are large pieces that are generally used in non-residential applications.

Shingles - Custom-fabricated slate shingles offer a textured appearance and represent an economical form of stone wall cladding.

Sculpings - Also known as irregular slate bricks, sculpings are used as a masonry stone.

Split-face Veneer - A heavily textured, cleft veneer that can have sawn edges or a "rubble" appearance.

weathering characteristics

Some materials are “unfading”, meaning they will hold their basic color even after many years of exterior use. Others are “weathering” or “semi-weathering”, meaning they will change color (usually to shades of brown) when used outside. A stone’s weathering characteristic is primarily an aesthetic consideration. “Weathering” in and of itself does not adversely affect the performance or durability of a stone. See stones below for weathering characteristics.

finishes

Depends on stone selected. See stones below for available finishes.

sizes

Custom sizes for panels and shingles depend on stone selected, finish, thickness, joint width and other factors. Slate sculping sizes are random, approximately 8 to 16" long, 2 to 7" high and 4 to 6" deep. Split-face veneer is available in many sizes.

thickness

Depends on use, stone selected, finish, piece size, setting method and other factors. Generally slate exterior panels are at least 1 1/4” thick. Shingles are usually 3/8” thick. Sculpings and split-face veneer are 4-6" deep.
